Motorcyclist magazine’s 100th anniversary issue is on the racks now and it’s a great issue. I’m only about half way through the mag and every single article has been a good one. I even like the ads. In addition their annual “Best Motorcycle of the Year” articles, they have, in honor of their 100th, named the Motorcycle of the century, the 1969 Honda CB750, and I happen to agree with them for many of the same reasons they have identified.
The 1969 Honda CB750 changed everything.
For the first time, a reliable high performance motorcycle could be within the reach of any rider who wanted one. It put the British Motorcycle industry out of business and put Harley Davidson into a tailspin from which it took years to recover. It ushered in a new era of motorcycling, the likes of which have never been seen again.
Triumph has finally ridden triumphantly back into the picture and Harley Davidson has become arguably the most successful motorcycle company in the world, but in that time and that place, Honda showed the way . This was truly a remarkable motorcycle.
I also agree with their choice for Motorcycle of the Year, the Ducati 1199 Panigale S.
Motorcyclist has a great website but you’ll have to pick up the magazine to get the full details.
