Nothing quite thrills a motorcycle rider quite as much as to glance at the car beside him on the freeway and see some douchebag texting as they roll down the road.. The penalties need to be at least as strong as those for DWI.
|Idaho Brings Number of States Banning Texting While Driving to 37|
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Governors Highway Safety Association commends Idaho for becoming the 37th state to enact a texting while driving ban. The distracted driving bill was signed into law by Governor Gov. C.L. “Butch” Otter yesterday and goes into effect July 1 of this year.
The texting ban is primary enforcement, meaning that law enforcement officers can ticket a driver for texting while driving without any other traffic offense taking place.
The Idaho Office of Highway Safety reports that distracted driving contributed to one out of every five crashes in the state between 2007 and 2009. With the right combination of education and enforcement, this new law can help keep Idaho’s roads safer for all.
